Sitting Bull was a Hunkpapa Lakota Sioux holy man and was born around 1831 near the Grand River in South Dakota. He led the attack on Custer at Little Big Horn. After the battle he fled to Canada and stayed for five years until he surrendered to the American forces.

Indian Affairs eventually ordered his arrest because they feared Sitting Bull would use his influence to support the Ghost Dance movement. While trying to arrest Sitting Bull, there was a struggle between his followers and the police. During this struggle, Sitting Bull was shot in the side and head and was killed.

“I am a red man. If the Great Spirit had desired me to be a white man, he would have made me so in the first place."

Spoken by: Chief Sitting Bull
